This video is a good example of why we do what we do. We can make a difference for the future of our children. We do it everyday. Good for you... good for us! Happy 2011!!! TM : ) At the end of today, I will close up shop (my computer) for the rest of the holiday and enjoy the sights and sounds of the hustle and bustle of one of the busiest times of the year. I have a Top 10 List of stuff that I want to remember, so I'll post it here in case I forget...
AskTracy's Top 10- Don't Forget to do List during the Holidays
Two more days before Christmas and the chaos to just drive down the street to buy some milk is crazy! The combination of rain and last minute shoppers probably has something to do with it. Ahhh, the joys of the holiday season! BEEP, BEEP, "The light doesn't get any greener!" HONK, HONK, "Come on Buddy, you're blocking the whole lane!","Mom? What's for dinner?"
STOP! Okay, breathe. Again, deep breath... when you're feeling stressed and you're frantically trying to get things done, take a deep breath. And then to put you in a better mood, sing! Yep, we all know the words... "It's the holiday season, the holiday season, and whoopty-doo and dickery-dock and don't forget to hang up your sock..." real LOUD now, "HE'LL BE COMING DOWN THE CHIMNEY NOW..." singing off key is better yet and it'll make you laugh. Try it. I promise you'll forget about the madness in the streets, your kids will be embarrassed and you'll actually forget that the person in the silver truck is honking at you. Honking at Me? lol TM : ) I can't even tell you what day it is, or what time? The weather is definitely frightful and the fire inside... well, there's no fire yet as I'm too scared of the rain to go get the wood, AND it's DARK! I know, I know, what am I? Scared of the weather and the dark? No, not me. Okay, a little, well I think it's the little critters that are hiding in the wood to stay dry that might have me thinking second thoughts.
I just have to laugh because this is my homeschool blog to encourage you and I can't even encourage myself to go outside! Too funny! Wherever you are, stay safe, stay dry, stay warm and keep your coco mug full! TM : ) WOW... I never miss writing on Fridays! It must be all the sugar cookies I'm eating that's fogging up my abilities to remember anything but having another cookie! : ) OH, I have a repeat for that...
Christmas Cookies Are you ready? You know, for the big week of eating freshly baked cookies that you were supposed to make for your neighbors but realized that between you and your kids, 4 cookies is just not enough to give as a gift. Can I make a longer sentence then that? Well, I know I can eat as many cookies as words in that sentence, does that count? I have to go now. The remaining cookies are calling my name. TM : ) So I read this and thought, hey, it's so relevant for this time of the season. It also reminded me how of how things change from season to season. It's raining today and it's not supposed to let up for about a week, but I'm still feeling "pretty good." TM : )
Santa Claus Research Paper How are you feeling today? Me? I'm feeling pretty good! It's a beautiful day out, the sun is shining and I know that the holiday break starts at the end of this week. YEA!!! Don't get me wrong, I love homeschooling my kids, but it's hard for me to get out of the teacher mode and saying things like, "Hey, we can research the story of Santa Claus and write a paper!" So I will stop doing that for a few weeks and concentrate on singing carols (off key), wrapping presents, and hanging out with my family and friends. With all this teaching we've been doing, we all deserve and should be feeling pretty good! TM : ) I like this quote...
“The difference between school and life? In school, you're taught a lesson and then given a test. In life, you're given a test that teaches you a lesson.” Tom Bodett quotes TM : ) Today I got the opportunity to talk with new homeschool families, and when I say,"new" I mean just starting 2 weeks ago new. I am glad that they have me to let them know that they matter. The choice to homeschool may be easy, but to actually do it and change your lifestyle, well, that could be pretty rough. But as with anything that we do that requires change, it always takes time to adjust. My biggest piece of advice? Take deeeeep breaths and hold on to the vision of your children being great at something they love because you helped them to get there. TM : )
I saw this on a Facebook page and I wanted to share how well we're doing. Good job! You're making a difference! I couldn't figure out how to make the chart fit on my blog, so here's the link. HomeschoolingbytheNumbers
Have a great weekend! TM : ) Guess what? I've been asked to write a column in the local community magazine about education! This will be a new type of writing for me as I know what I do best, encourage YOU. What a compliment though, and I hope I am able to educate people, even just one person, that there are choices when educating your child.
Okay, on to another topic... Have I told you that I like what I wrote in the past? The one thing my site doesn't do well, or maybe I just don't know how to do it, is to bring my old writing to the front. Or at least mix it up so you can read what I wrote. So I think what I'll do is once a week make a repeat day. Let's start today with a holiday bit from last year called... Stress Free Holidays Eureka! I think I found it! The secrets to a stress free holiday season! Are you interested? It all started with the Christmas dinner. Christmas morning we would get up bright and early and then I would cook all day. Yea! Okay, not! So a few years back, I started having the big meal on Christmas Eve. And do you know what? Leftovers never tasted so good after playing with my kids all morning with all the new Christmas goodies. Another Christmas I learned that it's not all about Martha Stewart. My then 6 year old son was making a Christmas tree cake and got green frosting and colorful sprinkles all over the entire kitchen, tracking it from one room to another, right before we had dinner guests. I was the "Grinch" for sure and I'll never put Martha Stewart in front of my children's Christmas memories ever again. Now for the last stress buster... Christmas cards have been boycotted in my home. Wow, I feel so light I could float away! Quick, feed me some Christmas cookies and a cup of eggnog to keep me on the ground! : ) TM |
